Mary Portas is asking you the British public to name-and-shame, or, name-and-fame the best and the worst customer service in the UK. She is targeting big retail names and forcing them to review their customer service skills. I really would not like to be one of the high street stores at the moment.
My pet hate is dirty changing rooms, with nowhere to hang the clothes. We all moan about service in shops but don’t have the balls to say anything. Maybe Mary will change that way of thinking.
Mary sparked a record number of wannabe mystery shoppers, nearly 10,000 registered following the debut of the new series.
She is correct in her view that any drive to improve customer service has to come from the top. Retail owners need to see what the customer want through the eye of the customer.
At its heart, retailing is all about offering a great sales and service experience for the consumer. When done well, retail businesses are inevitably successful. When done badly, retailers struggle and ultimately fail.
Mary, well known for Mary Queen of Shops, urged me to blog about Cheshire’s very own Mary Portas alias Chris Blythe, who has been doing exactly what Mary is doing now for the past 20 years. She will turn around any failing retail business and is currently featured in January’s edition of Cheshire Life magazine.
Chris Blythe owner of Retail Advisor developed the sister company to CB Interiors after identifying a ‘niche’ in the market.
She simply identifies problems facing many ‘failing’ businesses. By applying honest and realistic development programmes, often inexpensive – the success stories began to emerge
Chris turned around one of Cumbria’s well known hotels. The Sun Hotel, in Troutbeck was a struggling business when Helen and Ron Henderson called on her services. Chris’ created 2 bridal suites, en-suite bedrooms, an amazing snug/bar, bistro style restaurant and conference centre. She carefully created a ‘woodland theme’ throughout which is admired by all who visit the hotel.
Chris is working with shop owners and other small businesses across the North West you can find out more about her on our website http://www.thisladyloves.com or her very own website http://www.retailadviser.co.uk
